If you believe that art and culture builds community and contributes to our collective quality of life, our social and economic health, and our ability to create a better future, sign up as a member and join our circle. We've got exciting things in store for 2020! A strong network of members is vital to our ability to realize inspiring and challenging art-based programs for the diverse communities we serve.

Here are a few of our most recent accomplishments, with and for our members:

  • 5 distinct thought-provoking exhibitions, with related artist talks, workshops, tours, and readings by leading artists from across Canada.
  • Engaging and creative activities for learners of all ages at Art Lab, including Hul’q’umi’num language classes as part of our project Siwin: Word Power, and amazing opportunities for teens.
  • Special events throughout the year, that ground our exhibitions in a wider context such as our Estuary nature walk with ethnobotanist Nancy Turner and Snuneymuxw elder Geraldine Manson, and free dance workshops with Justine A. Chambers during our exhibition Across the Table.
  • A collection of art that is growing; our most recent acquisition included 15 works by Jerry Pethick who was an artist based on Hornby Island. Pethick’s work will be included in an exhibition in late 2020.
  • The Gallery commissioned a significant new work by Snuneymuxw father and son artists, Joel and William Good, called Supernatural Eagle Bringing the Sun Back to the World. This cedar carving has been installed prominently above our public entrance way, and the project was nominated for a 2019 B.C. Museum Association award for Outstanding Achievement in Collections.
  • Over 14,000 kids participated in our TD Artists in the Schools program.
  • A 3-day holiday pop-up shop at The Gallery Store, with a focus on locally made, sustainable art and goods, contributing to the livelihood of regional artists. Purchases made at The Gallery Store fund both local artists and Gallery programming.

We look forward to bringing you more relevant and innovative programming in the year to come.
