November 5 to December 15, 2013
Location: Diana Krall Plaza
Curated by Toby Lawrence
Nanaimo Art Gallery presents a curated series of video art on the large screen in Diana Krall Plaza. Video works by Corey Bryson, Laura Dutton and Jennifer Van de Pol draw attention to our individual and collective experiences of particular places or events. These artists make use of local histories, political issues and social behaviour as they examine and re-imagine the world through documentation, altered time and fabricated experiences. Intervening in the regular programming, the videos run periodically throughout the day for the duration of the exhibition, allowing viewers to experience the same artworks at different points in their day and with different circumstances.

Artwork by Chris Lindsay compels us to consider how we relate to the spaces we move through and inhabit. Moving off the gallery walls into the spaces frequently unaddressed, the artwork forces a new path through the gallery. Lindsay, a recent graduate of the University of Victoria’s Master of Fine Arts program, utilizes materials such as wood and thread to challenge perspectives and bring awareness to our individual positions in the world.
