Join the conversation! Open Session is a monthly reading and discussion seminar for artists and community members to explore issues related to contemporary art. Facilitated by art historian Marie Leduc, PhD, each session includes a reading on a pre-selected topic or question, decided upon with input from the group.

Indigenous Education Coordinator, Arlene Deptuck alongside hul'q'umi'num learning youth Talela Manson and Jayla Dawson invite Snuneymuxw, Snawnawas and Stz'uminus community hul'q'umi'num language learners to come to our first Hul'q'umi'num maker lab. We will use art making tools to create sketch books, chalk boards, cards, patches and more that can be used to support your hul'q'umi'num learning in your daily lives. Each maker lab will have a different making activity. Hul'q'umi'num language champion, Adam Manson and elder Gary Manson will be present to support adding hul'q'umi'num to your new creations. Pizza will be provided.

Learn and practice Hul’q’umi’num with Snuneymuxw language champion Adam Manson. Receive a language booklet and instruction geared towards learning about and incorporating Hul’q’umi’num respectfully. This series will be themed toward a Hul’q’umi’num exchange at a local coffee house. At our final gathering, participants will meet at The Vault Cafe to practice using our vocabulary in the community.

After, stay for a special performance by local Indigenous performers.

Join Aaramë Robillard as she shares her printmaking practice and leads a pre-holiday card making gathering. Learn the basics, carve your own linocut block, and print a set of cards to send to friends and family. Take your block home to use later for printing on wrapping paper, gift tags, and note cards.
